LEAP INTO DANCEOur Story

Welcome to our Leap into Dance Program. We are excited to have you with us.

Leap into Dance is an inclusive dance program. Our contemporary-jazz, Ballet and Yoga classes for children, teens and adults are delivered in an accessible way by a team of passionate dance and disability professionals.

The Leap into Dance program is no longer a registered service provider from 1st July 2021, however will continue to be able to create invoices appropriate to plan and self-managed participants but will not be able to process agency managed funds.

We asked our students what they thought of the dance classes and from there our motto and name was created, Leap into Dance – Be Amazing!

Our History

1999
Lee completed her Masters in Occupational Therapy with the thesis entitled “Occupational Roles of Performing Artists who have Support Needs”. This has become the basis for the Innovative Community Participation program, titled “Leap into Dance”.
2002
Lee set up her own business, Spring into Action, teaching inclusive dance classes and providing Occupational Therapy. In 2011 she opened the Creative Learning Centre which had 2 therapy rooms and a dance studio. In 2016, three fourth year Occupational Therapy students completed a project involving a survey of the dance participants who had disabilities who attended the Centre. They also collected updated evidence regarding the benefits of dance to participants who have support needs.
2018
Georgina Bond joined the Centre as a dance teacher with an interest in inclusive dance. In 2019, Danielle Benedetti began the Certificate 4 in Disability and began to provide support in the supported dance classes.
2020
Lee moved to Canberra. In preparation for Lee’s 2020 move to Canberra, dance teacher, Larissa Cain established Creativity Dance Studios for the mainstream dance students. In consultation with the supported dance participants, we created a new name and new motto to continue the supported dance classes. The Leap into Dance program was established.
2021
Georgina became owner of Leap into Dance with Lee moving into an advisory role. Georgina is excited to continue working closely with Lee and Dani to continuously develop and expand the program.
